Charlotte Sports Cycling, the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce and Tour de Kale invite you to come join us for an exciting weekend of criterium racing in the heart of North Carolina! The two days will showcase races on relatively flat, fast courses, that will allow chances for breakaways and sprint finishes! There will be categories for all levels of cyclists, along with two free kid races, for those who want to try out the sport. Both quaint towns also offer large areas for spectators to come and cheer on the cyclists during the race. Come to watch or race and prepare to be electrified!

Spectator Information:
What is a criterium?
A criterium is a bicycle race that is generally less than a mile in length and where cyclists must complete as many laps as possible during an allotted time frame. Depending on category, race distances may vary between 25 and 50 miles in length and the fast pace and high visibility are crowd pleasers!

Why is a criterium so exciting?
Imagine observing a group of extreme athletes pushing their bodies and bikes to speeds of over 40 miles per hour, while maneuvering through tight corners to become the race champion.  These athletes not only have to rely on their own personal strength but on their team members to help support them through the race.  There are potentials for break aways from the main pack, sprint finishes, and the occasional crash.  Some have even compared this type of race as the NASCAR on two wheels! The electricity from this type of event is not only felt by the athletes, but by the crowds that come to cheer them on!

This exciting event is free for the public to come watch and is a great way for adults and children alike to learn about one of the fastest growing sports in America.  You will not only be close to the action and the athletes, but kids will have the opportunity to try it out for free during a kids race being held at the start line on Fayetteville St at 5:45 pm on Saturday and 2:30pm on Sunday!  Plan to spend your day in Asheboro on Saturday, May 5th or Denton on Sunday, May 6th and see what all of the hype is about!  The action starts at 10:25am!

The Asheboro in Motion Criteirum is held in conjunction with Art May-Ham.  Art May-Ham is a street festival that includes criterium racing, a BMX stunt show, BBQ cookoff, music and the work of over 30 artists and artisans.
